I have a 1999 grand prix GTP, I hit the gas and the car drives but I am at 5 on the rpm gauge and it will slowly start to roll and continue to roll until i let off, I don't want to push it or over work the engine, but I also don't want to take it to a garage and get screwed either. So any help as to where to start or what to argue with the mechanic with later would be much appreciated. Thank you.

How's the trans. fluid level look? Color of the fluid? Almost sounds like the trans is slipping bad.

    This sound familiar?

I had the same thing happen, but my cheap fix was fluid & filter, attempt to drive it for at least 100 miles, Fluid and filter again with 2 bottles of Lucas. Be sure to adjust the amount of fluid you are putting in with the amount of additives, don't overfill it or bad things happen. If that doesn't do it, parts inside the trans need replaced.

Drove it the next day to get it checked out and everything drove like nothing happened when I went to the mechanic, So they just told me to give them a call when something happens. So drove it home, but it takes forever to shift out of 2nd then when it does it spikes up and then hits 3rd, and again takes awhile to get into 4th but it just goes into 4th when needed. Maybe something electrical? or the transmission is going?
