Hey guys, as the title says, I've got a bad tapping sound in the engine..

Last week while driving home from work, some idiot slammed on his brakes, for I don't even know what, and I in turn had to hit my brakes hard.

I stopped in time, but as soon as I was stopped I noticed a tapping sound and the car was idling .

I pulled the car over and looked it over and didn't see anything jump out at me. I checked the oil and I was a quart low..

Is it possible that I starved the engine of oil by hitting g the breaks so hard, and in doing so, spun a bearing?

This car is my baby and daily driver, and I'm now having to drive my gto..

    Is it tapping or knocking?
An engine is an engine no matter the size.... I think Dr. Seuss said that... or maybe it was Big Weld....

It's definitely a tap... I broke a valve spring a few years ago and it made a simular sound.. I can't imagine having broke another by sing on the breaks..

Get a real computer to make it easy.

A tap is valvetrain related, a lower end knock that gets reall loud and have a metallic sound and oil full a glitter is a spun bearing.

I'd toss a quart of transmission fluid in the oil to clean the motor up and free up a noisy lifter if it's just a tap sound.
