I'm looking for a specific group of photos where the person broke through the edges of the casting and had holes to fill and filled with what looked like JB weld.

i did that, but i'm not sure if i have pictures for show and tell.

you're going to break through the casting at about 11:00 where the MAF housing part meets the inner barrel of the throttle body.

this is the best picture i have. you can see the aluminum epoxy to the left of the MAF. that's where it's going to break through the casting.

I haven't broken through yet I was turning it on a lathe, and am down as low as I will go for the MAF hole, just need to knock down the edges that were left.

You can open the 97-98 TB all the way without going thru the casting and then modify the maf opening to fit a 99- up maf.

Do not have any before I used a drill press not realizing there was slight angle, so yes, drilled through the side and JB welded the side and did some nice body fender work. Here's the almost finished product...

I was mentioning to him that it would probably change the output of the MAF and that tuning would be in order. What do you guys typically have to change tuning wise for this?

What difference does the porting male if the butterfly is still the same size?

The raised area takes up about 10% more space and it's in the way.

    The butterfly is about 68-69mm

Looks good Coolone, I am only about 70% there I am going to leave more material even with the bottom of the MAF just past the O-ring. I am going to media blast it after work and then fill in the areas where I am going to brake through with Lab Metal and then let it cure overnight and. I still have the throttle shaft to do as well.

5's talk to Booba, this isn't actually for me. He was telling me that the 97's were larger throttle plate.

it's quite easy to strip the throttle shaft out and grind it thinner. just make sure you stake the screws when IROR

Yeah, it was easy to pop the bearings and seals out and pull the throttle shaft and all the brackets. All I have here is the casting, everything else has been removed.

The change in air can make a difference as far as maybe making a run and record before/aft...

To answer what does it do? Well, along with porting and smoothing out the SC, throttle response was much improved! I didn't go so far as the butterfly shaft and yeah opened the mouth at the plate as much as possible without losing the seal. Not much really...

That's kinda what I was thinking he would have to do. I have done this on Ford MAF's, but we would just enlarge the sampling hole and tune it from there. Lol

if the butterfly plate were replaced and the maf blocked off, could the throttle body be opened up to 75 mm? and is there a replacement butterfly plate?

I was curious about the butterfly plates, but never could find anything on it. Not sure why I didn't sub to this before, lol.

What I was talking about was that the N\A TBs have a smaller throttle plate so it'd be a lot more work to port one of those and also we'd have to track down a throttle plate. The 97-98 TB castings have more meat around the MAF area so filler isn't needed. From what I've read that's the only benefit to using one of those TBs. Pretty sure this TB is past the point of no return though lol. Thanks man!

biggest was 72mm iirc from the old zzp modified TB's from way back in the day. you get nearly the same venturi flow through the throttle bore with flattening of the TB shaft
