Last summer the A/C went out while a friend had my dad's 07 base. Today, we found a rusty cap sitting on the plastic that covers the outside of the A/C compressor that someone told him was the A/C clutch. He's taking it on a 1400 mile round trip this weekend. Is there any easy way to replace the A/C compressor without pulling the engine?

Not familiar with the 07's, but I'd imagine it can be done from the bottom. If you replace the A/C compressor, get an accumulator/drier and orifice tube (if that year has one) also. A lot of times if you don't replace these items it can void the warranty on the new compressor. And get a new one, not a reman IMHO. A few bucks more but new, not redone. I've never had good luck w/ reman compressors. Last one I installed for a friend lasted 4 days before the clutch locked up.

If the compressor broke internally you'll want to flush the system before you install new parts. Then just vac the system down to 30Hg of vac. and let it sit for 30 min. If it holds then fill er up w/ 134a and let the cold begin!

Couldn't you just replace the clutch alone. Is the clutch AND compressor bad, or just the clutch?

you can get it from the top easy enough, you take the coil bracket off the belt off and just reach down to it and the 3 nuts holding it on. then from under the car, on the back side of the compressor is 2 more bolts to a bracket.

then theres the plug and the bolt that holds the a/c lines on.

Bottoms easier. There are great deals for brand new compressors on rockauto. I got a brand new OEM Delphi one 2 years ago for my former 97 GP and it was only $162

if you were to take the splash sheild off in the pass side fender its right there too.

you can see two of the nuts from this pic, one more on the top of it.
