Ive had a problem with the gp getting hot during this time of yr. and around the end of summer.... When it idles for a lil bit the temp goes up to 200* if not a lil more but it doesn't hit 210*.... But then bout after a few mins. it goes back down to wateva stock is.... I cant think of wat it is... I am thinkin of puttin a cooler thermostat in it and changin the antifreeze from dexcool to the green stuff.... If anyone knows y its doin this please let me know... Also if you know where to get a cooler thermostat at please let me know....

    Thanks

Seems as if MANY people are having this issue... I've got somewhat of this issue as well, but haven't yet quite tapped into the problem, so haven't done much about it yet... I'll check around n get back to you on this 1 bro.

The stock thermostat is 195*F And the stock fan turn on temps for both of the fans are into the 200's. It's normal.

a 180* t-stat is worthless, unless you have a pcm flash for it.

I would highly not recomend that. Let me explain.

Although the only way a 180 stat will be bennefictial 100 percent of the time IS to get a pcm tune done and change the fan on/off settings. Although for the 100+ dollars you're going to pay is not worth it. Wait untill you get some other mods first. Then have it tuned.

So basicly the only time you're going to see lower temp is on the highway with the 180. I'n the city it will be near identical to that 195* stock thermostat.

BTW, With a 180* thermostat you will likley still see temps in excess of 190*. Especially when driving in the city.

With my 160 and the fan settings adjusted I see temps around 185* in the city.

And for the record the t-stat is not going to help you gain any horsepower. The only thing it may do is make the engine last a little longer due to the lower temps. But that is also unlikley. But that is the only reason I have one in mine,In hopes that it will.

I had the same thing, i read one of the threads on here thats normal, as per the posts on here. Mine does that when im sitting or in stop and go, when im crusing its pretty cool, from what i understand the thermostat doenst open until 190* and the fan kick on until 210, as soon as you start moving the temp drops down, just how our cars are designed i guess..but yeah normal bud.

It may be normal but not good for performance

A 180 degree thermo will do good without a pcm... it lets coolant into the rad 15 degrees sooner. A pcm flash will help it effectiveness but does not make it worthless without

im wanting to get a overkill pcm, u bend delete, and new dp, with a cold air intake, and hopefully that would give me a little extra power..... So the question now is do i or do i not run with a 180* thermo?

wont make a difference. so long as the coolant system is up to par all coolants should perform equally.
