Does anyone know the most common problem that causes the P0440 code? I have the list of probable causes but I didn't want to look into them all if one was more common. Thanks.

Most commonly that shows up due to a faulty gas cap, but as you stated, there could be other reasons as well, but the gas cap is the easiest to start with.
