I don't know where to start off, I'm having major fuel consumption issues. I get 12-13 mpg hwy and for some odd reason it seems like I get better consumption in the city. This is a huge problem because I can't afford to get gas every 3-5 days. I drive like a normal person, I don't speed and I never reached speeds above 85 mph (overtaking). I also have this whine (sounds close to a supercharger whine) that I get when I accelerate, I think it's the alternator because I do have a sound system hooked up. But I'm wondering if anybody had these issues and how can I solve my fuel problem. My Pontiac is a 2005 base model L26 engine, naturally aspirated with 52,600 miles on it. Please help!

pull the belt off, hand spin all the pulleys. the water pump alt, or ac compressor could be siezing up, if one does lock upm it takes the belt and other stuff with it.

you can also run the car for a minute belt off to see if the sound is gone belt off. if its gone its something on the front of the engine.

Power steering pump or the trans making noise is my guess, check all fluid levels

And it sounds like it times for a tune up based off age of the car and not the miles.

New plugs, wires, clean throttle body, clean MAF sensor, install new upstream o2 sensor, run fuel system cleaner through motor.

Once that is done, it's easier to determine what might be the problem.

New Plugs, wires, Fuel cleaner are already done. the other three I did not do. The plugs were ****, overall changing those stuff didn't even help.

if your dragging a pulley theres your no power and fuel loss right there.

we've seen a few guys have the a/c compressor clutch lock up take the belt out, then wrap the belt around the balancer and take out the crank sensor and its harness.

its a free check, so get to it asap. the old stitch in time deal.
