Re: AZ Phx Stock Internals L36 3" Catted Downpipe for deeper sound ???
That wasnt the goal. If you read what ive been asking, i said that will a bigger dp make the exhaust sound deeper not like a i4 srt4? My bud did that 3 inch catted dp and it changed his sound completely from sounding like bees to a deep almost boxer un equal length header sound. And all he did was change out the dp
Re: AZ Phx Stock Internals L36 3" Catted Downpipe for deeper sound ???
Since you're n/a go with the 2.5 but there is no gains from a loud exhaust. It's a V6 and will never sound as good as a V8. Also if you ever decide to run from the cops, all they have to do is listen for your exhaust to find you lol
Re: AZ Phx Stock Internals L36 3" Catted Downpipe for deeper sound ???
You want it to sound somewhat like an SRT4...either buy one, or turbo your car. It's N/A right now so it's much easier than having a Supercharged car.
Also; no SRT4 sounds like a Boxer. It sounds like a boosted four banger with a cat coughing up a hairball. Been around plenty. A boxer sounds like a boxer. If you want to make your car sound crazy different, then have someone make un-equal length headers for you to simulate that boxer noise. And I'm sure making them from scratch will cost more than what your car is worth. A guy makes them for the N/A Ecotec's and they actually robbed HP/TQ at points all over in the power curve along with not fitting well...and costing six times as much as your everyday header that WORKS.
So if you want more noise, get the 2.5" catless downpipe...and cam the thing. That'll give you an idle worth caring about...but it's still a 3800, so when you rev it...it sounds like ass.

Pretty sure all the headers made for our fwd 3800's are unequal length... front set will always be longer than the rear. Everything else you said I agree with.
Re: AZ Phx Stock Internals L36 3" Catted Downpipe for deeper sound ???
Some good info, but my state requires a cat. I actually bought it in a county where they didnt have emissions and had to get one put one because it was removed. Now the one thats in there is rattling hence the idea of new whole dp. Btw i wasnt sayin my buds i4 srt4 sounds like a boxer, i said that when he did a 3 inch dp his sound went from sounding kike a bunch a bees to a super low dep burbly, boxer LIKE sound. Thats all i was saying, like. Of course the boxer sounds diff but it sounded so similar to my cuzs 04 wrx side by side. And right now my l36 sounds amazing. Its has a magnaflow gp where the rezzy was and 2 magnaflow street dtm muffler outback. When i was still goin to tech school, classmates always asked me when i start my car, if i straight piped a LS4 swap. Lol i went a gmasep tech school and even the instructors there told me that it was the best sounding v6 3800 they have heard. LOL I have a bud with a 3800 01 monte and he put flowmaster 50 in place of the mufflers and a resonator delete, and i swear it sounds like a p.o.s. Hes saving up for a magnaflow set up like i have!!!!!!! LOL but I just wanted to know if the 3 inch would change the pitch to a lower pitch than the 2.5. My pops a had 67 bug with a porsche 356 motor and he told me all the performance problems with the unequal length vs the extrator. So yea thx for the input. All i was asking was will a 3 inch dp change the pitch compared to a 2.5 but thx everyone.
Re: AZ Phx Stock Internals L36 3" Catted Downpipe for deeper sound ???
Actually my gp is super quiet. I dont have drone, nothing. Triple magnaflow lol

I think you missed the UEL part I was getting at.
Something ignorant like this noodle mess I was talking about:

Your buddy gets the sound from his turbo.
Bar none.
You won't notice anything going from a 2.5" to a 3" downpipe...and if you do, I'd suggest becoming the new sonar machine for the Navy.
Re: AZ Phx Stock Internals L36 3" Catted Downpipe for deeper sound ???
Jesus fvck thats a mess. Doesn't make sense to me though.. because I had a subaru.. and only difference was both driver side were longer the the passenger side.. but the ones on each head were basically similar/same length. Similar to basically all headers on FWD V6's, just under the subframe. But then again, I'm no exhaust expert, I'm just stating what I have seen on different cars and such.
Re: AZ Phx Stock Internals L36 3" Catted Downpipe for deeper sound ???
That's all i needed to hear. Lol now i can save some $ on the 2.5 inch instead of the 3 inch. I cant wait because when i bought my gp i had to put a cat on in a hurry because my tags were dues when i bought it. Little did i know it had no cat and failed so i bought a universal and it turned out being a 2 inch.... rofl so you could say im excited to get this new dp
Re: AZ Phx Stock Internals L36 3" Catted Downpipe for deeper sound ???
You can get the cat code tuned out...and run a Frozen Boost converter. It looks like a high flow cat, but just has pipe running through it. So with an ODB scan and a visual inspection, it looks just like a Magnaflow Cat.
