I confirmed my power steering hoses needed ro be replaced. My dad who works at GM got me a deal on the lines for $150. My mechanic wants 280 to install them. If thats 90 an hour, it is 3.1 hours. How long does this actually take, how hard is it to do at home and am I being taken for a ride?

The ride would have started with your dad if you weren't in Canada. Since you are.. $150 might only be mild robbery for the parts. I'd say it takes a couple of hours to do the job. 3.1 might be long, but likely that is what the book pays on it. Ask your Dad how many hours it pays.

It would be easy to save the moola with a set of jack stands, needle nose pliers, 16/17/18mm wrenches and a bottle of ps fluid.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

$150 is outrageous for the lines, ACDelco lines on Rockauto go for $40.35 Canadian, $30.47 Shipping to Toronto. Total would have been $70.81 for the exact same hoses to your door

$280 isnt bad really to install them, maybe abit on the high side, but it is probably what it is booked at. did that include taxes, shop supplies, etc?
