Don't hop up the L36. Even with a cam you won't be faster than an L67. And an L67 is slow these days. Don't waste your money.

All my mods and porting and my car is slow as ****.

Half the point of a cam on a N/A car is just to make it sound nasty.

The GT2 is tiny as well.

    I'd suggest a budget build.

Trim your runners yourself, run an L26 UIM, port your heads yourself, port match the LIM, and just drive it.

Total investment would be low, but it'd be reliable as you'd eliminate the plastic UIM and LIM gasket.

Haven't the faintest clue what that means.

What do you want from the car? A sorta misfire sorta lope sound or a hearty lope?

    Lope: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv8qAXlLrIw
    Epic misfire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh0NS8FWCr8

Either way, as someone else mentioned, even if you don't know cars, you'll know something is different, and you might "get in trouble" anyways.

I want the deep hearty sound. That open header car with some flowmaster 40s would sound so mean

    Some springs that aren't stock.

    But so would a GT1.

Go look at ZZPs page. The lobes they chose, LSA and advance are all part of the part number. They also list out the lobe lift, duration etc.

They both have the same lift, but the GT2 has a bit more duration, lower LSA and no advance.

I wouldn't run stock valve train with a cam.

If you spin your engine out with a cam, on stock springs with a couple hundred thousand miles on 'em, you're asking for trouble.

Basically what he is saying is that over time the stock springs wear out when using a cam, any cam. You have to remember not to believe ZZPs propaganda. Just get some 90# springs they are cheep and should hold up pretty good with a small cam like the gt1

That stuff was written when the cars were new. Now they're very old, broken and worn out.

Not that this hasn't been covered a thousand times:

Cam basics: Change the valve seals, valve cover gaskets, valve cover grommets, LIM gasket, UIM gasket, inspect UIM for failure and replace if damaged, front timing cover gasket. Also good time to RTV up your pan gasket, check/change the lower engine/trans mount. Also check the water pump for signs of seepage and turn by hand to feel for bearing issues.

All of the aftermarket springs are LSx springs and thus need LSx style retainers.

Always put a new timing chain and damper on( unless you're going double roller). If you go double roller, make sure the crank gear actually matches the crank gear from your engine. All of the timing sets are sourced from Australia where they have different crank gears, thus the kits don't fit the North American engines properly.

I would also replace the retainers. And if possible the valve seals. Or what he said^^^^
