Ok. When I was parking the car. I smelt a bad burnt rubber smell. After investigating, I noticed the drive belt was snapped and was twisted around the bottom pullies. My question if I replace this, could this happen again. And what would cause this to do this? Could it be a pulley too hard to turn? I am having a shop do this as I dont have the equipment to complete this or the time. The belt looks in great shape (not sure when it was last replaced), no cracks or glaze. Just a clean line where it broke. Any ideas?

If the shop/person that is working on the car is smart, they will make sure each pulley spins by hand first and then see if anything caused the belt to break.

If it all checked out, then I guess that belt was just weak in one spot.

Ok. I did that on all. All the small pullies move freely. Could not get to the tensioner or bottom ones to check. And the Big one ine the venter would not move. I think hat one is the Crankshaft. They are only charging me $105 - 135 dependent on if there is a motor mount in the way.

the VIN is 1G2WP52K22F182158. They are asking for a Letter to identify the specific Part. They asked if it was "K". As I have a K in the VIN, would this be what they are looking for?

These are the ones that I checked and they are all spinning Freely.

No motor mounts to move on a 3.8(GP's anyway). All you need is a 15mm to move the tensioner, and swap belts. Takes me about 2 minutes.

Turns out it was the tensioner pulley was locked. Only a $427 fix. This car is going to suck me dry. So need a new car.

wtmof. One ratchet, 1 socket and you could have replaced all that for $100 if you had to buy a cheap ratchet/socket set.

the whole tensioner is less then a 100 bucks with new elbows http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...Term=tenaioner with a discount code this would even cost less.

i bet you could have just changed the pulley for 20 bucks. and a new belt, call it another 50.

i so hate shops and their BS pricing. and shops pay less then you for parts, and then charge you full blown list price so they make money off he parts, and the labor.

As far as the new belt, which is better Gates or Dayco? Both stores Napa and Advance have two options Good and Best.

rad flush is 60 bucks here at a shop, so i think not. it was a lube free f ing if you ask me. sand paper condom made me chuckle, would have "liked" that one for sure lol

after the part is sold to you for 140 bucks, the belt another 80, then the 2 hours of labor at what 150 a hour? i think they keep your car on the time as long as its in the shop, so they take it apart, then order the parts and wait for it. cause its a 30 minute job really if you have everything in hand already.
