    On the L36 with the PCV valve in the upper intake manifold, how do you check to see if the PCV valve is working?

    I read somewhere on the internet that the way you check the PCV valve is to make
    sure there is suction at the oil filler hole while the engine is running; is that true?

    Remove the connector on the map sensor on the end of the black upper intake manifold, passenger side. There is a cap that turns clockwise and locks. Turn it counter clockwise and the valve is under a spring. There should be an o-ring on the pcv. If not..stick a finger in and retrieve it. Shake the valve lightly. Do you hear a rattle of a ball bearing in a little can? If yet.. it's good, put it back together.

    For as cheap as they are I replace them. Or if you want, clean it. I clean mine once in a while, but when I removed the stock one at 109k miles I wasn't even going to attempt to clean it. The new one gets soaked in carb cleaner for a few minutes and reinstalled every 1k miles or so if I'm already under the hood doing something else.

    And if there is white/yellow creamy goo on it, you probably need lower intake gaskets...i know from experience
