Ive got a 2008 GP base, it has about 196000 on it now and on Friday night i took a bit of a road trip, then about half way thru the trip i noticed smoke coming out of the back of my car. I thought i was burning oil but no i sprung a damn leak. The whole front side of the engine is soaked in oil and I had to go thru five qts to get home. So today I was doing some looking around with a can of break clean and i noticed that the drops of oil were falling from around the crank pulley, but i am not for sure. So my question is how common is it for a crank case seal to leak, and i need more ideas on where to look.

Thank in advanced for any info.

I'd take a bet and say its coming from the oil pressure sendor which is right behind that area.

Though the front seal can go, but its not as commom.

Try cleaning it up better with some de-greaser and then let it dry and then start the car and see where the dips are coming from.

if you turn the wheels all the way to the left, then stick your head behind the pass side tire, look at the oil filter, now just past it is the oil pressure sensor, start the car watch the pressure sensor for oil to pour out of the plug.

There's really very little in that area to leak. Like the guys said, the crank seal, the pressure sender or the filter/adapter gasket.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Hey thanks alot for all the good info but last night i did some looking around on a buddys lift and found the damn leak. Just so happened that it really did come out to be the front main seal. Now, I have heard that to cause that it is improper venting of crank case pressure, what do you guys think? I do however have a cai and a hv3 but i dont think that would make any difference. Again, what do you guys think?
