I am looking to get a little more power from my 02 GT. I figured the easiest upgrade would be getting the ECU reprogrammed or getting an aftermarket chip. My only concern is that I have just over 275K on the engine and tranny and they are working great with no bad signs yet. If I upgrade with this extra power could this lead to problems anytime soon due to the mileage. Thanks your input.

well there are no "performance chips" ud want a PCM tune, custom/street tunes would be the best, but if your looking to mod id get the tune last but if you dont plan on modding at all then get the tune now, but that is pretty high mileage, i personally wouldnt do anything to it and leave it as it is

Chip is a waste, considering they don't exist lol. Honestly, don't do either of those. A good beginning mod = $40 do it yourself intake

Bought a canned PCM for a GT.

Was not worth it at all.

Did an intake, equally not worth it.

Put headers on. Only thing I noticed actually made a difference. It moved the powerband up. If that's not what you're after, perhaps a plog and downpipe might help while keeping the powerband from moving too much.

I would leave it bone stock. Maintainence will likely keep your hands full. For starters, you'll want to replace your LIM and valve cover gaskets including the coolant elbows and a new UIM. At the very least, check to see if the LIM gasket is plastic or metal. If metal, it should be fine. If plastic, change it before it causes you problems when you don't have the time for it.
