It should be interesting how this turns out. Im sorry the lifters were not the issue as that is the most common source of such a noise.

Have you been able to get an audio recording of the noise? If so, can you post it up or link to it?

I listened to your sound bite again, and I have heard that sound before (not on mine). It does sound like your harmonic balancer. You can test it yourself. Grab the belt and see if you can move it back and fourth. If you can your issue is the harmonic balancer (rubber let go of the pulley). When I say back and fourth, I'm talking with little effort, not turning the engine over or any for that matter.

Don't feel real bad about doing all that you have done so far, it was inevitable that you would be changing an intake gasket anyway. Good job by the way!!

    Let us know.

Crap, I completely missed the sound file. Thats definitely more than a lifter. That sounds rough. Thats not what Id describe as a tick, LOL.

Yeah my sound is not so good on my LT, so I put my headphones on and man that sounds like a HB.

Wow. Which bearing? Was it really a cam bearing like Dan ominously predicted?

well id like to have one.... i actually bought this one for the girlfriend because she blew her car up a month or so ago... and i just got my truck painted so im trying to keep her as far away from it as possible..... so ive gotta get her something and i dont have a whole lot of cash but also refuse to have another car payment.... so if i come across another one then ill definitely jump on it.... if not.... i guess shell just be stuck with whatever....

Well, I can certainly understand that you are probably frustrated with the whole ordeal and after spending the money you have and still have the problem to fix. But I would hope that you could get yours fixed and keep it chuggin. Is there much of a local club around there that could perhaps help you with replacing the camshaft and bearings?

I certainly understand the money situation and I hate to see you bail on it, but I do understand that you gotta do what you gotta do. Perhaps hit up Ed Morad and see what he has a camshaft for and then just get some clevite bearings from ZZP or something and see if you can get it running again.

Not trying to talk you out of anything, just throwing out some stuff that I hope helps and might be able to keep the vehicle going for a while.

My personal opinion is keep it. Not that hard to get it running again. Once its up and running it's still a deal considering what you paid for it and then spent on it. You still come out on top.
