Hear the putt putting and the ticking?

Car has had misfires on cylinder 5. PO305.

Misfire is worst when engine is cold (consistently throws PO305). Mostly goes away after engine warms up.

    New:
    Plugs (gap verified)
    Wires
    Fuel regulator
    passed compression/leakdown
    coils
seafoamed (through brake booster and gas tank) and heads cleaned
    smoke test passed
LIM gasket failure repair (UIM replaced)

Anyone have an idea of the problem and possible solution?

Complaints of ticking and rod knocks after seafoaming is quite common. Its lube and fuel stabilizer made in 1930 for boats. Mostly Pale oil, small % of Naphtha which is not very effective when used in situations where its only on parts for a matter of minutes. Naphtha is more of a soak product, takes hours/days to do anything. Pale oil temporarily interferes with top end lubrication, should subside over time if this is the case. There is IPA in the product. That will boost your octane levels for a while, giving the feeling that something good happened. Gone as soon as the gas is gone.

Generally speaking its the combustion chamber that holds the key to any performance or misfire issues. Intake cleaning can cause more problems than it solves. Intakes should be taken off the car and cleaned or left alone. I've taken many intake manifolds off cars. Its all dust that made it past the air filter and chunks of dried carbonized PCV oil. Not something you want near the piston walls, rings, valves and catalytic converter.

Additives in the fuel system that use the modern additive PEA in a tank of gas just before every oil change is good enough. The 2 with most concentrated PEA adds are techron concentrate plus, red line si-1. Could you brake booster these products? Yes. But its better to clean your whole system (EVAP, pump, etc.) and clean the combustion chamber slowly over time vs flooding your cat with crap it can't keep up with.

Modern synthetics like Pennzoil Ultra and Mobil 1 High Mileage have 10x the cleaning power of Naphtha based engine cleaning products from the turn of the century. The only add in this category that has done anything for me is Kreen from kano labs. Its so potent it cant be sold retail. 12oz of that stuff in your oil for 1k miles, change the oil and your engine is free of any sticky varnish or sludge impacting upper end ticks.

    So I would...
    • Discontinue "seafoaming" and seafoam use in general. Use modern PEA gas additives.
    • Try one of the oils above in a 5w30. Add Rotella T6 5w40 to the list.
    • If it doesn't go away in 1 OCI adjust valve clearances or try Kreen.
