Hey everyone...I was just about to do a coolant flush on my 2000 GP GT, and the drain plug looks like it needs some sort of special tool to remove it. Can anyone help me out with this? I tried using a small socket extension, to no avail.

Use a bigger socket extension then.
And it does'nt remove completley.

I wasn't referring to the LENGTH of the extension, I was referring to the diameter of it.

I use a 1/4" drive extension. Usually just a 2" one on a ratchet. It should fit right in and then just turn it counterclockwise. The plug twists out as you turn it and only comes out about a half an inch and then the coolant should start flowing out from under the radiator. It does not drain out at the plug but below it, you are just opening the drain.

It's a 3/4" socket that you need. Worked fine for me.

Having drained the rad, is the drain plug something that should be replaced on these things? It doesn't have any threads, and looks like it just pops in. It doesn't sit very snug, and I don't really want it to pop out on the highway.
Any suggestions or tips?

It's not meant to be removed, unless you broke it. It's a valve that lets the coolant flow out the bottom of the radiator.

It is still intact. It just looks a little worn. I was able to remove it. I am wondering if the guy who owned the car before me cranked on it a little too much when he was doing the last coolant flush.
Should I just grab a new one to be safe? Thoughts?

I put a 1/4" drive socket ext in the plug, turned it counterclockwise, the plug came out about a half inch BUT then nothing??? No coolant came out. Where it is supposed to come out of or should I just remove my lower hose? Maybe it is clogged with that Dex-Cool sludge. Any ideas?

turn with extention 1/8 turn n slide strait out
