Hello Everyone, I'm in need of some advise.

I own a 2002 GT with just over 200000 km, the tranmission has completely failed, I had no luck locating a decent used tranmission.

I have found (and bought) a low milage 1999 GTP (170000km) that was involved in a collison with a cyclist (the roof/windshield are caved in) for $500, ill get $200 back in scrap metal. I bought the wreck with the intent to swap the powertrain into my GTP. Based on my research on these forums and elsewhere its said this is possible, as long as i stay within the 98-02 model years. Its nearly a drop in. My father inlaw has rasied concerns this process will be a money pit, labourous job and many not work in the end.

I'm aware i'll need a PCM programmed for a GTP with my VIN on the GT, wiring harness swap kit and possibly a fuel pump harness (not manditory). I'm I missing anything? I'm I unrealistic in believing this is a simple solution?

The wrecked GTP sat over the winter since Septmeber 2011, the car started right away with a boost, sounded great and easily drove onto the trailer. The motor/tran required some maintence, such as plugs, fluid changes and LIM and belts.

My last question is the GTP has the performance shift button, Is it possible too swap this function into my GT and if not will there be any issues?

    Thanks a bunch

If you took some of the map connector wiring off the GTP and soldered it onto the GP harness, then took the couple wires for the boost control and moved them into your harness as well you'd be all set on wiring.

Your fuel lines aren't going to sit nicely from my experience, although Bio and Hitman both say theirs played nice. So that's an item of possible issue. Not tough to work around depending on how you decide to deal with it. You could use fuel injection hose and clamps, braided lines or maybe get yours to work like Bio/Hitman did.

Exhaust is the same, motor mounts are the same, makes that part easy.

You would need a tune to change the car over to a SC'd 2.93 gear ratio. Easy enough though.

Transmission, I forget if 2002 is an internal park neutral switch or not. There's an easy way to wire up an external switch on your 2002 if need be. Literally your parts car would have all the stuff you need for this as well.

On pulling the drivetrain as a whole on both vehicles, I do have a post about engine removal and another on trans removal. Easy way to do the whole thing though.. unhook the electrical from the motor/trans, drain the oil and trans fluid. Disconnect the trans lines, pop out the axles, undo the nuts holding the mounts and hoses and exhaust. One hint.. I find that removing the two 15mm nuts holding the master cylinder to the booster and letting the mc hang out near the strut in front of the ABS module, gives you a lot more room to take the trans and engine together. Then lift and drop the new drivetrain into the 2002.

Use the GTP passenger side axle as it's shorter than your non Hd trans axle that you currently have.

I'm about to swap a GT to a GTP motor tonight/tomorrow. I'll nab a few pics of the things like the wiring.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
