    Got my 08 3.8 v6 GP back from having the power steering pump and rack & pinion replaced. Almost immediately the check engine light comes on and stays on for a couple days. Car was running fine, so I wasn't too concerned. I went by the local Advance auto today and they ran the scanner and the code is for "low input" on the rear knock sensor.

    Two things;

    I've read a couple places that the rear knock sensor is impossible to get to due to the transmission, is that true?

    Is it AT ALL possible that while they were fixing the steering the sensor was impacted, I mean, is it even close to the pump or the rack & pinion?

    Any insight is appreciated.....

    Yes, take it back to them. It's either unplugged/wires damaged or sensor is damaged.

    the wire could have been pulled off, that sensor is really no where near the pump or the rack.

    if you got some ramps, get under it,look up between the oil pan and the trans pan, (check the plug) you will see it looking right back at you. from what i've seen looking at mine, it can be changed with out to much trouble.

    The rear knock sensor has an extension harness on it. This extension spans from the rear knock sensor to the power steering pump. Correct..they clipped it onto the back of the pump. On the clip at the pump is where it connects to the main engine harness.

    Like the guys said.. likely it got pulled or is unhooked right there. No worries about going all the way to the knock sensor. The sensor it a pain, it's not impossible.

    And you really can't tell it's clipped there without screwing at least one up.

    i found it the hard way, the pump would not come out lol then saw the wire clipped to it lol. thankfully im smart enough not to rip it out with out looking first.
