my dip stick was smoking

So i was driving home from work. at that point i had been driving for a hour straight. so i stopped to get gas, and went to check my oil and my dip stick was roasting and had smoke rolling off of it and the tube had smoke coming out of it. I hit the road again and it seemed like i lost some get up and go for awhile then it came back. also i the temp was around 160

Also today the transmission started acting crazy and jerking. think its time to just let her go. in the last year i've spent $2153 in parts and new motor, and only books for $1615 so i dont think there is anymore hope at the rate stuff is breaking, im gonna trade her in friday, its going to be a sad day.

both the engine oil dipstick and the trans dipsticks pass within 1 inch of 500+degree exhaust manifolds.

my oil dipstick smokes all the time, the trans dipstick too if i check after a decent amount of driving.

double check the trans fluid level...make damn sure your on level ground

i checked it, was full, red and didn't smell burnt. today it started jerking and if i let out of the gas and get back into it, it will rev slightly and slam and go. also to day my low coolant light started coming on and i checked it and its full. today it seemed like after all these miles and parts to keep her running she is giving up. my plan was to try to get 300k out of the motor and transmission and see if it could do it. but i guess 179k is it lol. found a car lot today that has a 95 thunder chicken with a 4.6 think im gonna do some trading on it and go back to a old trusty ford.

If you decide to go with the T-bird (which is decent btw), then do yourself a favor and make sure you drive it for a while and have an independant mechanic look at it. Pay particular attention to the trans. behavior when fully hot before you agree to buy it . I've owned a 95 Bird for years and have some decent knowledge of their possible issues. Just don't want to see you get stuck with another POS that some dealer says is good to go, especially with a 20 year old car and the lack of money you may be dealing with at this point.

Good thing is that they're very safe cars and can take a hit rather well (just ask my wife) concrete median and steel guardrail later and I still drove it onto the flatbed with no issues, lol...

if i get this one this will be my 3rd. when i was 16 i had a 93 cougar with a pos 3.8 tranny came out of her. slid the ass end into a tree running 45 and still drove it. and then it thru a rod clean thru side of the motor and cought on fire. the piston was even broke in half, i have it laying somewhere still in a ziplock bag. but that thing started back up after that, i was amazed. and i had a 88 tbird with the 3.8 and then me and a buddy played with it after a night of drinking vodka. story short had a huge engine fire. but anyways what turned me onto this car is the 4.6. I've had a few vics with the motor and they wouldn't skip a beat. besides the port on front of the intake.
