I have a bad coolant sensor and it usually flashes. But as of today it just stays on. So I look at the temp.... And boy was I surprised! It was about 250 Degreesss!! So I shut the car off and went to the coolant... And it was green, not orange... Think I should drain it all and see if that stops the overheating? Or could there be more damage?

green is what u want it to be. that means its not dex-cool. unless it was orange, and turned green, in which case, i dont think thats possible lol. temp sensor is only 10-20$ its right on the lim right side. easy to replace.

    The low coolant light flashes?

I would top off the coolant, and bleed the system of air, then be on your way.

So you have a hole in your coolant overflow? What year is your car?

It's a 98, so the coolant reservoir is on the driver side of the car right next to the PCM

You didn't really give us enough of the right info to help you.

    What light is flashing?
Do you fill through the overflow or at the radiator cap?
Have you ever bled the system?
Why don't you regularly glance at your temp gauge?
Were you sitting still or in traffic when you saw 250F?
Were you using a digital gauge to read temperature or guesstimating based on the dash temp gauge?
Do you have access to a scanner to read actual temp?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

The low coolant light usually always flashes
I have never touched the coolant due to the fact that I bought the car in the winter
I have never bled it no.
I regularly do, and it is normally between 180-200
I had just arrived at a friends house when I saw the 250
I was guessing based on the dash temp
I do not have ready access to a scanner, but I can get one easily enough

Why do you say you never touch it and contradict what you've already said. Makes no sense dude. You either touched it or you didn't.

The solution to your problem is to replace the item that is located between the driverside front seat and steering wheel. Fix that and you'll be all set.

First thing i'd do is drain coolant, grab a new thermostat and pop that in. Refill and bleed the system and see if your issue comes back

    Not that hardcore man lol

I decided to do what you said OH4CompG

Okay so I really went all out today and checked stuff out. I thoroughly examined all the hoses from the radiator.. And the bottom had a tiny hole so I replaced it, thought I drained everything but apparently not, so I took a shower in antifreeze. Anyways I dropped in a new hose, and thermostat (for Shets and Giggles mainly). As a final check I wanted to examine the Water Pump. I took off the belt and moved the W/P around there was about 1-2 cm of play left and right. (towards and away from the engine).

Took the car out for a drive after refilling with coolant correctly at the radiator. I nestled around 190-210 degrees at the thermometer in the dash.

I'm thinking I will need a water pump soon...

Is that good enough info Bill?
