    Hey all,

I have a 98 GT 3.8L 113k miles and recently my ABS & Traction control lights come on and stay on. When I first start the car in the morning they will occasionally go off for a few seconds, but then they come on again and stay on. I also notice that when the lights come on my powering steering seems to become harder to turn the car.

I replaced all four rotors and pads so I don't think its a brake issue.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    -Nick-

Sounds like you either have a bad wheel hub or unplugged connector. Or you have a bad rack and pinion and your assisted steering has gone out or that sensor has become disconnected. Both will cause those light to come on. But as stated the only real way to tell is to get the abs codes read.

What code reader do I need for ABS codes? I took it to Autozone but they did not have the correct code reader.

One that can read ABS codes. It needs to be taken to a shop that services brakes or to a dealer.

I decided to take a look under the car today and I came across this:

    http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/100_1622.jpg

I'm not sure what the broken part is...and would this be why my ABS & Traction control are not working??

I'm going to take it to get ABS codes scanned but I wanted to show everyone the picture and see what feedback I can get.

    Thanks,
    -Nick-

Looks like your front sway bar is broken, but no that wouldn't affect your ABS. Just affect your handling some.

That is the sway bar. Looks like it has been broken for some time. No, it will not affect your ABS & Trac lights.

Make sure you get that fixed.

Well while this may be true for you it had nothing to do with why the light was on in the first place. Anyway glad your light did go off.

I wish that was the case with mine haha. I recently put on all new pads and rotors but no change. I'm taking it to get ABS code scanned soon though. I like my ABS and Traction control in the Winter

Pads and rotors will never make a ABS light go away. The ABS light means there is something wrong with the ABS system (wheel speed sensors, EBCM, wiring, etc).

its the wheel speed sensors, common problem with GM and Pontiac. i had the same problem the terminals are either dirty or just need new sensors. I just got new ones after cleaning the terminals after they fouled up 2 weeks later. all is good now

When you say terminals...Do you mean the terminals for the plug? I didnt think the sensor itself was access able
