Muller817 -- No i don't think i have a blower motor problem, could you please explain what that is in a little bit more length??
and just to recap my problem from the previous page...
My date(on my DIC)is always off by like a day or two almost every time i start the car! PLEASE HELP What can i do???
Second point, My ABS light, Traction Control OFF light, and Check Variable steering light and Check Engine light Keep coming on(all at the same time) ...It doesn't happen every single time i start the car, but maybe once every 3 starts!??? Does anyone have any help or advice?? Please i'm in dire need of advice...
Do you think its my Wheel Speed Sensor that is tripping all of those things at the same time?? Please help.
well when i pull it out of park and go to rev. or drive u can hear the air just die down but then kicks back up when i hit the throttle..
I took my car into my local auto repair place to get my brake codes scanned yesterday. My ABS & Traction Control Lights are always on now as I previously posted.
My mechanic said he was having trouble trying to scan my codes and believes I either have a bad computer or a faulty wire somewhere. I'm leaning toward the wire because on occasion my lights will go off for a few hours then come back on.
Where would you think the faulty wire would be ?
Thanks,
-Nick-
Well to be able to scan for abs codes you have to have a code scanner that is able to scan for abs codes.
Maybe that was the problem. Typically if you have a bad PCM you will have more problems then just not being able to scan.
Then again you did mention the lights. I don't belive the lights in any way go through the pcm.
Could you be a little more specific on how he could not scan you're car? If you have some more info that is.
Hope you get it worked out.
I'd love to get your take on my above posted problem... :-)
Also what is your advice on "fixing what the codes say the problem is?"
Meaning, isn't it true that most often their are codes behind codes behind codes..and that if i fix the first one that the Pontiac dealership tells me to fix, that it might not even solve the problem at hand?? I just think that this can get real expensive real fast?? are their any alternatives??...
Well don't have anything on the date issue.
As for the other problem. Typically ALL of these lights come on at the same time for a bad wheel bearing.Tech. the wheel bearing is not bad though the sensor inside of it for the ABS is. I currectly have all of these lights on in my car. After i did a trans and cam swap on mine the next time the car started the lights were on.I havent worried about it.I owned two earlier model mustangs before that didnt have abs either so i havent worried about fixing it.
The variable steering is basicly a sensor on the steering rack I'm not sure what it actually does. It has something to do with sensing road conditions i belive. If the harness to that has come off it will make all of these lights come on. If a wheel bearing is bad it will make all of these lights come on.If the harness came unplugged that goes to the wheel sensor has come off it will make all of these lights come on.
The most common cause is a wheel bearing.
As for the check engine light, That should be something seperate. To make it simple...
You have a pcm...that controls the ignition spark fuel ect.
Then you have an ebcm...that controld all of the braking and abs stuff.
You have to have a gm tech 2 scanner to read the abs codes. Autozone cant do this with there code scanner because they can only read coddes off of the pcm with it.
Generally it cost i would say 60-100 dollars to put it on the scanner for the abs codes. When that is done they can tell you exactly what is wrong...example ...Bad front pass. wheel bearing. Or maybe even an issue with you power steering rack.
Any other questions just lemme know!
I experienced a similar issue. My abs and traction lights would stay on and I also experienced (not always) the crunching feeling as my abs brakes were engaging when braking at slow speeds. I replaced one front hub assembly and it was cured. I have a 2002 grand prix se (3.1 engine) with 345,000 km on it. I love my car!
And by wheel bearing i was refering to the wheel hub. Not sure of wich name is correct but there the same thing pretty much
It is more then likely the whell speed sensor. you can jack the car up and unplug the sensor. take a multi meter and put it into ohms. then turn the tire. it should read in a specific peremeter. if it reads OL then you have a bad sensor. check all of them. i would replace the hub with it and i think it is the only way. the sensor is a set pressed in from the teeth to the sensor.
I have the same problem with a 2004 Grand Prix - the repair shop told me it was caused by the Brake Control Module. Does this sound right? Can I replace this part myself?
This sounds like my exact problem. I had the front pass wheel hub replaced (although it was a used one) and the problem went away for a few hours. I think it is either one or both of my from hubs. However, intermittently my power steering makes a loud whine, dull at low speeds and higher pitched when accelerating. Could this be related to the wheel hub? I have an '01 GT and don't have a variable steering light, but this would make sense. I know this is an old topic but I need help before I start dumping money into this. I'm hoping the low mileage hub I had put on has a bad sensor and just need a new one, who knows?
My ABS would sometimes pulse at slow speed while turning into parking area or my driveway especially when raining or wet surface, also had some shake when braking hard, Sometimes the ABS/Tract lights would come sometimes not, Scanned C0245 - Wheel Speed Sensor Frequency Error (Frequency difference between the left and right front sensors) Pulled front rotors off and found evidence of a grab-slip-grab-slip condition on the passenger side rotor, surfaces of both rotors were mirror smooth with very slight scoring, very well glazed and a nice deep color blue, typical at 112,000, figured I'd just go ahead and install new rotors, pads were at about 50% so I cleaned them up and reused them. Took a while to reset itself , Have not seen issue since new rotors, now at 115,000 issue code is gone.
i have an ABS light on and my TRAC OFF light is on, i work at a GM dealership and hooked it up to a ABS code reader and it told me Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor was bad, i havent fixed it yet but just figured i'd let u guys know its most likely a wheel speed sensor. i have an 03 grand prix
I have the same lights on. Mine came on after I replaced a CV shaft so I figured I pinched a wire, so I just replaced that wheel bearing and my lights are still on. Do I have to reset them or somthing? I already pulled the battery cables. If all else fails I guess i'll have to take it and have the codes read.
I'm having the exact same issue with my '04 Grand Prix GT. Warnings came up one day. I pulled over and restarted the car (assuming something just started up wrong) and the lights were gone for an 8 hour drive. A week later they came back and would go off and on for about a month. Then stayed for a few weeks before going off for a month with no recurrence. Now, it is on and won't go off....
I've talked to a few work shops and have received (in my opinion) rather high estimates of how much it would cost. $80 - $100 just to read the code (between Firestone and a Chevy dealer). And they estimate that if it were a wheel speed sensor that it would run about $300 for parts and labor.
Do these numbers seem right? Any suggestions on how to do any part of this cheaper?
find someone to read the code for you and if it is just one wheel, replace that wheel bearing/speed sensor.......you will save a couple hundred that way. Not sure if you know anyone with a code reader.....
