So, just got home from my local NAPA store to purchase a belt and tensioner pully for my 97 Grand Prix GT.
Dave (guy behind the counter) asked me if it is the 1st design or 2nd design? I have no clue. I asked what the difference in belt length is from 1st to 2nd. One uses a 93 and 5/8 inch belt, and the other is a 94" belt...... 3/8 of a freakin inch difference...

Anyone have any clue how to tell if you have a 1st design or a 2nd design?

The cost difference in the belts is $20 freakin dollars.... for 3/8 difference.

The only thing I could think that would be the difference would be maybe the early 97's had only one plastic coolant elbow in them and the later 97+ got the 2 plastic elbows. Beyond that I'm not sure what else could be different.

97/98 had one elbow. 99+ had two.

Find the belt sizes thread in gen tech or look on zzps site.

10-4. I know this eng only has 1 elbow. Did it just before winter.

ZZP says 94" belt for 97/98 NA. I'll go with that belt.

    Thanks guys.
