well, i did i compression test, and it holds compression perfect. no leaks. compression is above 100. oddly enough, the car actually almost started with spark plug #5 out. any thoughts on any of this? where should i look next? fuel is good, and im gonna test/switch up the coil packs now and see what happens.

sorry to keep posting like this, but i just cant get it to start.. battery is now going dead again... tested spark and fuell again, there good, cylinder pressure is good and holding, and now, the ignition will not give me my key back. i know how to get it out, but could this have anything to do with why its not starting??

How are you testing for fuel? Pull a plug and see if it's wet with fuel.

If the plug is dry them spray some starting fluid in the TB.

i checked sparks when i did compression. they r soaked in gas. tried starting fluid. helped slightly, but not enough for start, and not to comfortable with starter fluid tbh. and i checked fuel pressure by hitting the valve with a phillips, and it sprayed out pretty good. i dont have a gauge to check fuel, but it seemed pretty good. is there any chance that this could be jumped time? and some possibly useful information is that the P.O.'s tried starting it till the battery died while it was hydro-locked.

If valves are bent then compression would be horrible in at least one or two cylinders.
Compression should be above 130 psi at full cranking speed.

Jumped time? How many miles did you say is on the engine? It would take an extremely worn tensioner for this to happen.

Edit: For spark - should be a bright blue with new plugs. If spark is yellow then plugs could be fouled or ICM/coil pack problem.

i was just re reading page 1. do you have the alt hooked up at this time? if not that may be your problem.

Plugs r all on. And 217k on it. Compression was like 180 on both at full crank. I took the plugs off the coils, and when I cranked, the spark between them was orange in color.

In the morning, of weather is permitting, I'm gonna get 1 of my buds 2 help me test everything more extensively. How do I test the ECM? And what should the voltage and values read for the spark plugs?

Sorry again for multiple posting, but it's a pain to edit posts on mobile.. I forgot to mention that my evap system is completely disconnected because it broke apart. I planned on fixing it right after I got the car running, but could this have anything to do with the no start issue?

Orange? This may be why starting fluid helps to almost get it started.
You may be on the right track with testing the ICM and associated wiring. I doubt all of the coil packs went bad.
Be sure to look at the spark between the electrodes on each of the plugs. If spark is orange there then the spark isn't hot enough.

i tried interchanging a few to no avail. i was peaking around under the head once i got home from work, (this car doesnt let me sleep lol), and i found a ground wire that branches off from the icm wire harness. i cant seem to find where it goes.. could this have anything to do with the no start? probably not, but im at a loss here lol. my neighbor still insists that its the timing, but its getting good compression. im going to test all the cylinders in the morning and see if any r falling short i guess. and thanks for the reply.

Could be that ground wire. It goes on one of the coil pack bracket studs but you can attach it anywhere on the engine for a ground.

Okay, compression test was above 150 for all cylinders, and I got the car started a few times, but it died out instantly each time. And I used a lot of starter fluid to get combustion(possibly too much lol.) in guessing the spark is why it's not starting. Any thoughts?

    Did you connect ground wire?

Yes no difference that I notice though. The block and heads are all fully grounded, the ohms on the coils r all between 5-8k, the spark color from the plugs are yello maybe orange. I'm pretty sure that they r supposed 2 b blue. Which the color and starter fluid helping would indicate a weak spark(plz correct me if I'm wrong on that lol.) would this most Likely be the coils, plugs, wires, icm, ECM? Not really sure where to go from here. What should I test? And does any1 know what the values shoul be on everything?

Remove a plug and put the wire on it. Hold the outer electrode against the engine block (using a pair of insulated pliers) and have someone crank the engine. If you hold the plug with your hand you may get zapped and it hurts!! The spark between the electrodes should be a bright blue color. Make sure there is nothing combustible near as this will definitely cause you more problems. Have a fire extinguisher within reach.

What brand plug wires did you put on it?

i always have a fire extinguisher around when trying to get a car started. learned that from my one idiot friend lol. and i just did this test earlier. the spark was orange, maybe yellow. but definitely not blue tho. the wires aren't stock, but im not sure how old they are or even the brand..

im kinda on a budget till my next paycheck, that's why i haven't just tried brand new cables and plugs. i do have a 2 pack of new plugs, and a spare cable or two lying around the garage though. so i guess 2morrow im gonna retry the test with a new/newer cable and brand new plug. and if the color is blue, im guessing(hopefully) that new plugs+wires could=a start.
