My car turns off when i am at low speeds or idle at red lights. The oil pressure light(Pan dripping) and the charge light(battery) are lit when the car turns off. Does anyone know what my problem may be. Its a 2000 GT 3.8 non-supercharged.

All help is very much appreciated!

Yes it does randomly dies. It will crank back up and i can continue driving but sometimes it will keep doing it. I am noob so i do not know what you mean by tach. The rpm does jump up and down sometimes giving me a rough idle if that is what you are referring to.

    Tach as in RPM gauge.

Normally that drops to zero right befor it'll shut off.

To me this problem sounds like the common Crank Sensor failure. Its a problem that normally never sets the SES light off and leave the driver puzzled.

The battery and oil light will be on when your car is in the on position but not running. Those lighting when the car shuts off are kind of like an extra attention grabber, so them being lit are normal.

So the reason for the car shutting off would be crank sensor correct?? Is engine kickback associated with this?

Edit: is the name of the part called "crank position sensor"?

Engine Kickback like when i am driving my engine seems to lose power for split seconds and seems to make to car jerk as if it is kicking backwards.

    Thanks for the link fivefinger!

My car is doing the same exact thing. It will run fine and then random stalls and sometimes it hesitates and will not go above 25 mph, die and will start up and run like nothing ever happened. No CEL. I may ask the shop to replace the crankshaft sensor. Anyone in New Port Richey area wanna help me with this?

Neither of these sound like a crank sensor to me.

OP, yours sounds like the car is running badly and when at warm idle the IAC is having trouble keeping it running. I'd suggest starting off with a TB cleaning, especially in the IAC area and then cleaning the maf as well.

Scotty... yours kinds sounds like a plugged catalyitc converter.

Remove throttle body and clean all the sensors and the TB itself. The IAC is the idle air control valve. This controls your idle. The MAF or Mass Airflow Sensor is very important and cleaning it allows it to work better (do not hurt the little wire).
