Car suddenly will not idle below 3000 rpm. 01 Grand Prix GT 3800 184k New cat at 180k. Runs great. Idle starts at around 2800 and climbs to 3400 and maybe more. I tried the carb cleaner to search for leaks and I don't think it made any diff. in the speed of the engine. Cleaned the MAF sensor. Replaced it 2 yrs ago. Clean pvc and broke the clip that holds it down. gees. Wired up a holder for it. Unhooked and cleaned the pressure switch on top of the pvc. Seems the red rubber is slightly frayed. not the gaskets but the end of the sensor. Where to now my friends.

If the PCV valve isn't sealed then that's a huge vacuum leak.

    Fix that.

Also, could be a bad IAC or TPS.

Clean those in the TB as well.

is the check engine light on? if its on have the car scanned at autozone or who ever you have near by.

seems like the tps (throttle position sensor) or real dirty throttle body. or a real bad vac leak.

Forgot to mention I stopped by AZone this a.m. Code was 0420. a)cat conv. b)02 sensor c)Lg. vac leak d)engine oil leak into exhaust vlv.(doubt it). Like I said the cat was replaced not long ago. Soooo I'm thinkin vac leak and I heard if you spray carb cleaner at a leak the engine will rev. No luck. and thanks

That's one hell of a vacuum leak you got there man. Could be IAC...unplug it with the car off and see what happens.

OK people... move along. I am up and idling at a mellow 1100 rpm. Cleaned the equipment around the throt. body. I also reset the thingy by turning the ignition to on for 5 seconds and then back to off for 10 sec. and then start. Perfecto amundo or what ever. Thanks so much. When your at whits end it is so nice to have someone to talk to about your baby. Good job.
