So my GP got hot all the sudden driving down the freeway. Not red zone hot but close. I pulled over and steam just came out of the engine bay. Did some research and found out that a common problem in the manifold gasket. Well I took the manifold off and gasket looked fine. So I stuck the hose in the radiator again to see where the water was coming out. I cant tell if this is the head gasket or not, or how much more I have to dismantle to get to this. Before I took it apart i ran the car for a minute and checked the dipstick and the oil was still clean, no foaming as I have seen in other cars with a blowen head gasket.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank You

Just below the orange there is the water coming out. Passenger side just in front of the alternator

That would be the coolant elbow. Go to autozone and look in the "Help" section. These are common. There are 2 of them. The one you see, and another one that is behind the tensioner assembly that you are about to remove.

let me rephrase that... it is coming from the gap just above the orange not out the side of the block!

The gap with the orange is the lower intake manifold gasket and right above that is where to coolant elbow goes into the lim and probably where it's leaking.

It is hard to see from the pic but the fluid is actually coming out of the separation, not the elbow. How hard is it to get to that lower intake manifold gasket? Keep in mind I already have the whole top of the intake, Throttle body and fuel rails off

    Thank you for your response!!

On the other side of that orange seal is the lifter valley. I very much doubt it is coming from there as the entire engine would be filled with water.
The coolant elbow is probably not leaking; it's the o-ring between the coolant elbow and LIM. This is what everyone is trying to tell you.

Use a small mirror to see if the water coming from around the elbow where it goes into the LIM.

    Eric,

What you suggest isn't possible because there is no water present where you believe it to be leaking.

The only way you would leak water at that orange seal would be to fill the entire crankcase with water and at that point the oil would be full of water and the motor couldn't possibly run.

The common item here is that $4 elbow. Dorman part number 47065. Head gaskets are less likely than you'd think. You seriously have a better chance of being struck by lightening on the big toe five times in one hour. It's those kinda odds on the HG.

Since you have an 03, this isn't your failure..but it's something you should definately read and know since you have the upper off the motor.
