i saw a guy switch his l36 uim for a l26 aluminum uim i have a 2000 l36 and would like to do this but would i need a l26 gasket or a l36 gasket and the other thing is the l36 tb is a 3 bolt and the l26 tb is a 4 bolt. my neighbor is a machinist so i will have him make an adapter for that no biggie. and the l36 uses a pcv and he siad he used a breather to fix this does this sound right???

The L26 is about the best you are gonna get stock. They made a reinforced plastic UIM... but Aluminum > reinforced plastic.

The LIM gaskets are the same. ZZP sells the adapter for the throttle body, I believe it is the L67 throttle body to a gen 5 adapter that you need. I have a L26 aluminum upper and LIM w/the aluminum gaskets if your interested? Came off of a 05 GP w/63,000 miles.

if you use the L36 LIM, the EGR stove pipes are different diameter and you'll need to bore out the hole in the L26 UIM in order for it to fit.

honestly for what it accomplishes it isnt worth the hassle unless you get it for free or much cheaper than the plastic UIM (which lasts just fine after they updated it).

Im going to be installing one of these soon.

L67 tb adapter doesn't seem like its worth it.

    Might as well go n*?

Also l26 uim gasket the same or different?

yep, same gasket. i reused the L36 one.

northstar can be utilized since you have to get an adapter anyway. i just personally don't like the northstar's feel so i would opt against it. the L67 setup is kinda cheap anyway.

Seeing as I may never go turbo I'm going to stick with my l67.

Keep in mind that like said you will need an L67 Throttle Body, because I just did this.

L36 won't work...unless I guess you RTV'd the poo outta it to the adapter plate.

You have to block off the PCV nipple on the top right of the manifold...I just deleted the EGR and removed the stovepipe all together, ran a little breather filter for the PCV, and tapped the back vacuum port and sealed it with a pipe plug and some plumbers paste.

I reused my L36 UIM gasket, yes. You will have to modify a couple tabs if you are running a HV3.

Couldn't you just hook the pcv up to a proper port?

You'd have to tap that port on the bottom of the tb unless you are running an external maf.

This swap will be fun, that's for sure.

Matt I'll send you pictures later.

You don't block off the PCV...you block off where the '04+ cars ran them...not where the '97-03 cars do.

On the EGR tube. They changed the tube size around 2000 ish.

PCV.. just tap your TB like the guys doing Gen V conversions. There's a thread around here somewhere. You just need to have it come in pre throttle plate and post maf.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
