I found a good deal on a 2006 L26 with 103K for $350 to replace the L36 in my 99 GT. Should I replace all the gaskets before I install the engine or just wait until there's a problem? I can't really decide which way to go so help me make a decision.

    Two things.

    1) Yes. I'd re-gasket and flush/replace all the fluids.

    2) Where did you get an L26 that cheap? I need a motor. LOL

That's what I was thinking of doing, but then thought that it's only got 103K. Guess it's easier to do while the engine is already out.

Should I do head gaskets and UIM/LIM gaskets or just the intakes?

I got the engine from Midway Auto Parts in KCMO. Search on car-part if you want to use them. If you search on their website the price shown includes shipping, but they told me they only deliver to shops. There are several L26's available from them from 2004 all the way to 2008. I almost went with a 2007 with 39K for $475 but decided to save the money in case my tranny needs work.

    Dont touch the headgaskets.

Just do the LIM and UIM, you will have to swap your LIM and UIM over to that motor anyway.

I was going to keep the L26 UIM/LIM and ordered a ZZPerformance throttle body adapter. Ordered coolant elbows and UIM/LIM gaskets while I was at it. Just really not wanting to have to worry about the heads if I didn't need to.

If you got the 2007 L26 with 39K on it it would not need any maintenance so its cheaper then the other L26 with 103K.

Yeah when you put it that way LOL, but I would probably still do the coolant elbows and intake gaskets. A lot easier with it out of the car. Just trying to get my daughter into her first car as cheap as possible.
