    Hello everyone,

I'm ordering parts for a rebuild and I'm at a cross-road with rod bolts...ARP or OEM TTY bolts.

ZZP says that the rods need machine work before using the ARP bolts. Is this because the shoulder of the ARP bolt does not fit in the stock rod? Is the machine work done to properly position the cap in relation to the rod?

I called GM parts and the TTY bolts are available for $95; about same price for the ARP's. Someone know if the ARP's can be used without the machine work? Do I need to have the rods machined with the TTY bolts?

The car is a pampered daily driver so not looking for a pavement pounder here.

The motor is a Morad short block extraction with 140K. I haven't plastigauged the motor yet but it seems tight. The bore looks great in all cylinders and the largest ridge looks to be about 0.005". It'll probably clean up with a medium stone.

    Thanks in advance

The rods need to be machined either way, along with the mains, or the engine will last about 200 miles.

So I guess the shop installs the bolts in the rods and resizes the bore?

I kinda figured the mains would need align honed.

Yeah, these motors while sloppy in current terms are quite picky on how they are put together.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
