Ok we have had leaks on our car for a while but now we got it checked out at a couple of places and the one place said we got to change like a bunch of stuff and the total cost was like $1200. Also the guy never lifted our car to even check, So ya we said F U and went to firestone and had it checked out better for like 20$. They say we have a bad water pump, and need a new Rack and Pinion which is worth A LOT. Also to change the thermostat which is expensive and i think we can change it our selfs, is it easy to change the Tstat? So ya and the first guy said they had to do like a lot more things than what i just said and the guy never lifted our car to check it right . The firestone said we dont. So new water pump, T-Stat, Alignment (which we are not that worried about to get yet), coolant flush, and new rack and Pinion which is the most expensive. It was for all that like $1100 at firestone, Then at Good year to do everything besides Tstat which i think we can change W/Gasket, It was like $1050. So we went to this private Jap place which i think they know what they are doing and said to change the Rack and Pinion and water pump and i think not sure but one more thing too for only $640. So ya is that worth it and are those things bad and also i think it is worth it cause they will need the car like all day to work on it cause the Rack and Pinion is like the longest thing to do. So i think its worth it getting it done at that place its called Usa Auto repair. So is that worth it and can you guys agree that is whats bad on our car? 07 Gp base and has 123k miles and we know that the power steering is leaking and some other stuff now too. thanks guys in advance and sorry for the long ass question but we just want to make sure before paying cause thats a lot of money.

A decent shop should be able to change the rack in a hour. Water pump in a hour and the thermostat in about 5 min.

It shouldn't take that long even if you do it yourself lol. I did mine in about 1 1/2 hours. Not sure if it's much different on the 04+

Generaly shops go by "book time". doesn't matter how long it takes them to do it, they charge the industry standered book time. they are there to make money, not friends.

EDIT: also they mark up the parts to "list price". If you want to save money you could buy the parts yourself. Although some shops(like the one I work at) won't install parts they don't get.

Really... you couldn't have bumped your thread instead of being unthankful for the help you already got?

    Waterpump:
    Drain coolant
    Remove belts
Lower ps pump (do not disconnect from hoses)
    Remove PS pulley (4 x 8mm)
Remove 4 x 10mm bolts holding water pump
Remove 4 x 13mm bolts holding water pump
    Clean gasket surface
Install new pump, using sealant on the threads of the 4 13mm bolts.

Torque spec can be found in a thread by TheOtherNick.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

i am thankful for the info i already got, i think i might have not gotten that through, but i wrote that threw tap talk so i did not read it. Plus the app sucks in navigation.

Any way thanks for that info and i think i might just wait till tax refund to do this, I think ill look that up about the rack and pinion.
    Thanks again for the help

the rack is under warranty only if it was built in 1 of 2 plants, the rest are not covered by the recall. if you call with your vin to a dealer they can tell you if its covered or not.
