3800's need to be boosted in order to make any decent power. keeping it n/a is just not worth it.

not if you DIY, this is what i have spent.
    cai-$50,2.5" downpipe $75(overpaid but dont care),ubend/resonator delete $50,2.5'' catback from 08 impala SS $200,custom overkill tune $250
so $625 and its all supporting for a turbo setup one day. if i want to go that route. and the retune would be much cheaper next time.
i did that over the spand of 2 years, for people who cant save alot or living pay cheque to pay cheque its a good route to go if your looking for good mpg and more power.
now that im getting my AZ licence and going trucking, turbo is looking more promising, that or a 2004 svt cobra lols.

I still dont think its safe to topswap and go.. i think these weak trannies of ours atleast need the hd diff from a hd tranny. and still need to buy some exhaust mods so its safe.people sell top swaps for cheap but they dont include shipping...bet thats pricey.

To put your guys argument to a close, Open cone helps our car NO MATTER WHAT. the restriction the air box had is now gone and it just helps the car. The S/C GP would get much more HP and time decrease from mods because of that S/C, thats why i want to get a GTP and not waste money on modding the N/A. BUT modding the N/A for cheap is really great thing to do to try to match the GTP 15.1 sec time, especially if you dont have money for a GTP. you can spend less than 1k to make a N/A GP go from stock 16sec to a 15.3ish quarter mile time w/out a top swap. My buddy on this forum has open cone, HV3, Tune, and headers and he can hang with his buddys GTP.

To make it simple IMO S/C GP > N/A GP BUT they both have they same badass great Bullet proof 3800 Engine, that includes the monte carlo and the Impala. I would love to get the GTP later on but right now i just happy to have gotten a GP even though it is a base its still better than a gay old civic, acura, or whatever other rice rocket
ALL GRAND PRIXs (N/A or not) > RICE ROCKETS

If a GTP ran 15.1 then it was either driver error (insert Serenity GTP here )or the car needed love. My GTP ran 14.9x bone stock...down to the paper filter and u-bend still in it.

    Intake, 3" DP...180* on a cold day with a 3.5" went 14.26 around 96-97...

1.84 Roller Rockers, 160*, colder plugs...and all that crap that means nothing...netted 99-100 mph trap speeds running 13.8-13.9...still no tune...car probably would have gone mid 13's tuned.

I don't even want to know how slow my silver car runs...and obviously it got pooped on a basically stock GTP (intake, tune...etc)

    See destruction, here: http://www.grandprixforums.net/real-...ace-56685.html

Granted, anything is better than stock...but by today's standards...hell, even 12 second quarter miles are becoming common. Back in the mid to late 90's...mid 14's for a family sedan was pretty quick.

625.... thats topswap minus all the fluids right there. my point proven granted youd need to get headers, but whatevs theyre dirt cheap now.

Damm you got demolished, lol ya it is true now a days cars are much more fast stock now. As for the GTP i want to get that car and pretty much mod it to be at least a 13sec car over time. i have heard that it can be done with way less $$$ used than other cars, is that true? so putting it in real world situation say a 04 or 99 GTP can be modded ( with all that LARGE aftermarket support) to become a 13 sec to mid 13 sec car pretty easily?

EDIT:: BTW thats an N/A GP your racing with, sounds pretty good. Hey it may be slower than a GTP, OBVIOUSLY, but it aint no rice rocket and will beat the hell out of em

stock tranny will hold up just fine. the only difference between gtp and gt trannies is the hd diff and final ratio. so yeah.

ya and everyone blows them up lol, or hard shifting after warmup,or slip and bang into first. bad 4th gear 2003 under list goes on, and people have a hard time rebuilding them without having more issues down the road.. Im already on my 2nd transmission..

'03's don't have a bad 4th clutch...not sure where you heard that since they had the hardened 4th shaft from the factory.

They don't break like the '97-'02 ones do.

sorry ment 2002 under, trannies still riddles with other issues.never understood why gm would make a reliable motor then mate a horrible transmission to it. ah well. every car has its issues. still a upgrade from my 99 sunflower 2.4l ticking time bomb and its horrible isuzu 5spd tranny lols.

    It's called maintence...

And don't beat up your trans with one wheel peels around corners, burn outs, 3-1 downshifts all the time...etc.

    They last.

Hell, I even had M/T ET's on the blue car's stock transmission...it never broke. I just replaced it with a built one.

Heres a pic sort of an update to my open cone that looks differ cause we moved it to keep it straight and made it shorter so we can move it so it stays straight. Also to the one guy who need the pic to see how i did the emission thing, here ya ago sorry it took forever:

Defiantly need a detail to the engine bay, most likely will be part of our summer project.
