My cold air setup, gotta love impala'ss for being able to stick the filter under the headlight and into the bumper.

Easy mods: flip your front motor mounts
get hv3 insert from - HV3 High Velocity Intake Insert #
get a tuned pcm from :: Overkill Motorsports ::
install them at the same time cause hv3 isnt much good without a tune.
Thanks, ya i think ill do that battery thing maybe right now.

The HV3 insert looks good but the PCM is way to expensive, i know you got to spend money to make the car go fast but the pcms on zzp are like 100$. you guys think i should wait to get the PCM? i make a new thread for performance mods

Thanks bro, ya when you do it get a big filter its wayyy better than the small and cheap one. its like a 5$ differ from a small one to like a medium size one.

ya i got a custom tune also from overkill(dont get zzp tune i hear), I wouldnt just go to any local tuner unlesss i heard awesome things about their tune. but last guy i found was local everyone sayin he was a joke aand didnt know what he was doing.
and about the motor mounts, if he likes the "roar" of his intake then he should like the slighte vibrations(not much) they give ya + lil better throttle response, but yes to each their own.

pcm when its all said and done, shipping etc is way more the $100, but i found it made my pull harder then any other of my mods.
Any other mods your thinking about will be more then $100.00 if that is too much i wouldnt bother modding and starting saving for repairs, or tickets if your being racekar in the city lol

Ya ive been looking through some threads and found that zzp pcm is not that good, we might get the pcm and then later on the HV3 insert when we get the money. Is that a good start the Overkill PCM then a HV3 insert, are there other mods that are better to get for the $$? I did read through the Safely modding 3800 thread and saw that about flipping the front motor mounts, but where is the motor mounts located at? Is it that easy to do?

take a flashlight and look from the side and youll see those mounts, follow the directions on that link, only thing i would recommend auto gel lube i wouldnt try with wd 40 needs more slip, get that lube between mount rubber and steel and twist back and fourth slowly to get it worked in(i know sounding like a porn movie..) then one slow steady twist and boom done. if you dont like the side effects(slight vibration when at low rpms, some report worse then others) then just put them in the original position, the + in turning the front motor mounts is quicker power to the ground, but dont tear them..lols.

What Will from overkill told me was it was fine to get the hv3 after the tune i wouldnt threw any codes, and i would get alot more benefits from the hv3 from the tune. but next time he was around(he lives near me thx god!) he would retune to get the most power out of it.

I have another question about my open cone intake here, one: do i really need a heat shield for it? two: How much of a speed/HP gain does this give the car? i know box had been very restrictive and we can tell by the small ass hole on the box for air, so it should have given a good gain. i know its no race car now with just that but it did make a positive impact right?

unfortunatley not much hp to be had from a intake setup. but helps with other breathing mods and if you tune after a few mods you get a better gain from your tune then if you just did a intake and tune. higher octane tune will also help alot. only cost me $7 more a tank to fill on 91 octane then 87 octane.
just got my 2.5'' downpipe installed today after my sucessfull etest, mid acceleration has deffinetly increased but havent had a chance to open it up safely, been to icy out past few days.

    What the **** opinions...heat shields ain't doing sh1t.

    Intake placement doesn't matter.

Ambient temps are a joke since the exhaust routes right under the intake.

You're better off building a deep freeze and stick your air filter in it and pray.

Welcome to owning a 3800 with a dumbsauce exhaust design...if I had endless amounts of money and I cared I'd do long tubes that run UNDER the motor like on the FWD VQ's...like Ron Vogel did.

Then again, I don't care that much and I'll stick a cone filter on the end of the TB and call it a day.

Arre their any threads that someone recorded the intake temps on a intake in the fender or bumper or wizair box of some sort, compared to Hot air intake? everyone says it doesnt make a difference in temps but id like to see actual proof cause the air is always moving inside the intake tube, so how could it get as hot as a filter sitting on/over the crossover and sucking the air straight from the crossover pipe? you think the filter being outside sucking in cooler air would keep the air cooler. id think alot cooler.
    i love arguing intakes Blue

Yes there is. Hold on, let me look for it. And youre forgetting that air needs to FLOW with as little restriction as it can. FWI and CAI's tend to add unnecessary bends.

    edit: found it.

Flow is more worth it to supercharged applications(I thought), i remember seeing somewhere a flow benchmark showing a N/A tb is still out flowed by a 3'' cai setup.
ill try to find the link, kinda doubting ill find it cause I saw it when i bought the car 2 years ago lol

that doesnt show the intake temps between hai and cai, its open hood with a fan blowing on the engine. i ment see the intake temps when sitting at a light in the summer and the engine roasting away lol. cuase thats when i noticed my old hai created some very slow takeoffs lol.
