NOTE (07/17/2007): The circuit presented here is identical (give or take some component values) to every commercial MIL eliminator I have examined--at least a dozen. However, you may find that it does not work with newer (2001-1/2+) cars because of advances made in both engine control software and processing power. |
Re: deleting rear O2 sensor
I searched ebay, and there is not an option for a 98 grand prix. I would like to get one with connectors already on it so I do not need to splice into the harness. There is one link to a source that is over $50. Does anyone know of other sources that are not splice kits.
Re: deleting rear O2 sensor
Can I purchase a PCM which the code P420 removed from it? I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Comp G!! Out in Phoenix, Arizona if there is a Mil on they fail the stupid Emission test so I need this to pass emissions.
Re: deleting rear O2 sensor
I have a 01 and my rear o2 sensors bad and I'm getting horrible mileage so IMO it's better to just put the o2 in like I will be doing when I get cash
Re: deleting rear O2 sensor
Rear o2 doesnt didnf effect my mpg. I had a bad one that threw cel and I got the exact same mpg

Ok, I've got a question that I'm inclear on, I've got a 03 gtp, bought a 3" catted sow pipe from zzp, so with tuning out the code using HP Tuner, no non-report, will the car run as efficient or will I'll still run rich but just not throw the code?

The way I understand it, the rear o2 is only monitoring the efficiency of the cat. It won't affect the trims. That's the job of the front sensor.
Though, I have heard of some ecus trimming fuel if the rear o2 is out of bounds to protect the cat, not sure if this happens on our cars though. I just set mine to not report and disabled the cat check, or whatever it is. Its some test that the pcm does to richen the mixture for a bit after a certain temp. Just max out that temp in the tune.

Re: deleting rear O2 sensor
I've read that thread before. I must have got lucky with my 01 because I've never seen the rich cycle. I thought it was because I maxed out the temp for the cat check?
Re: deleting rear O2 sensor
It will still run the test looking for the change between the front and rear sensor.

That sux. So changing the temp doesn't stop it. So weld in another bung and stick the o2 back in using the spacer?

Re: deleting rear O2 sensor
Dhp is the only way to turn off the cat test.
Re: deleting rear O2 sensor
Yup, DHP and Tiny Tuner. The 01/02 cars can get away from it by using a 98 pcm but that won't work for an 03 car due to the change in trans controls for that year.
