as per one members suggestion i took a video of the engine shifting gears.my concern was the heavy pounding vibration i was getting in the cabin when it was in drive and stopped(makes the dash rattle, door rattle)soon as its in any other gear or parked not so much vibration.he suggested it could be my motor mounts or trans mounts.the other thought that came to mind was i was told that these pontiac front ends/bumpers are notorious for loosing clips and not sitting in alignment with the car and hood.could that cause that noise.ill take a picture in a few of the hood.MOV01272.mp4 video by hulkman41 - Photobucket

I've never heard of the clips before....If you'd never done the engine or trans mounts they are probably due to be replaced anyways, not very expensive or difficult either.

    Spider4,

Thank you for posting the videos, although they are helpful, it is difficult to diagnose a problem like this over the internet. Have you considered taking the vehicle to your local dealer for an inspection? They may be able to pinpoint the problem with more accuracy. If you have any further questions, or need help finding a dealer, please feel free to contact me.

Could be failed upper motor mounts and dog bone bushings. From the look of th video, the upper mounts are allowing a lot movement

That looks like normal movement for upper mounts. I'd say one of two things. You have a failed or squished lower motor mount, or some worn axles. I've personally see worn CV joints cause this kind of clunk

    Spider4,
My car was doing that, so I just flipped the rubber part 90 degrees, made a HUGE improvement. There are articles here on this procedure, do a search for "FLIPPING DOGBONES".
