What is the little pipe attached to the upper intake manifold gasket on the Series III engines? I know the Series II didn't have it.

I don't unfortunately. I found it when I put the HV3 in. If you look at a genII gasket, there are 2 squares between the 1-2, 3-4. My original gasket had forks stick up off of that and held a small piece of pipe about 1/2" diam, 8"long and j shapped. The short side of the J stuck down towards the opening by the #2 opening. The long end ran parallel to the engine and stopped about at the right edge of the #4 opening. I couldn't see a need for it so when I put in the HV3 and it didn't fit, I cut it off. Everything seems fine but i've always wondered.
