    My apologies if this isn't the right forum to post this.

    I recently purchased an 07 Grand Prix with the base 3800 engine. The car's showing a P0449 code. I replaced the EVAP vent unit and it's still there.

    Here's where the plot thickens. I don't have schematics, so I'm like a blind man poking around.

    If everything I've looked up so far is correct, there should be voltage at the vent solenoid at all times. I have no voltage at the vent solenoid.
    Does the vent run through the same fuse as the canister? I have voltage at the fuse box at the 10 amp canister fuse.

    I figure this system doesn't look too complicated. From what I've read, the PCM sends a signal to a driver that grounds multiple components. The EVAP vent being one of them.

    So my big questions are:

    1. How and in what order is this system wired?

    2. Was my research correct and the EVAP vent should have constant voltage going to it?

    3. Where are the components located? The PCM, driver, and anything else?

    Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

    The Vent Solenoid grounds through a control module. This is the white wire. Still not sure where it's all located. From what I've read it's under the air filter in the engine compartment (correct me if I'm wrong).

    The orange wire going to the Vent Solenoid runs through the fuse box. It does have constant voltage to it.

    Now here's my story in case anyone else has the same problem:

    That orange wire had some major issues. I'm not sure if this car just happened to get a defective wire or if more are like this. It had multiple breaks in it.

    I invaded the wire next to the drivers seat and verified continuity between the fuse and the break point. No continuity between the break point and solenoid. Checked various points in wire between trunk and break point. It was all over the place. Multiple bad points in wire.

    I spliced the wire and ran a jumper from the previously determined good point. When I tested it I still had the fault. Checked system and found only .03V at break point. Disconnected the battery and there was no continuity between the fuse box and previous good point. That orange wire had multiple breaks all the way through it.

    Ran a new wire all the way from the fuse to the solenoid. Works like a champ.

    I hope the rest of the wires used in this car aren't like that orange wire.
