Thread: Air Conditioner Not Turning On

I put a new AC compressor on our '97 Grand Prix a month or two ago. Everything was working great, but now it wont turn on. The light on the control lights up when you the AC button, but the cluctch on the comressor never engages and it continues to blow warm air. I checked fuses, relays, and the conection of where the wires plug into the compressor and they all acted fine. Somehow power is not getting down to the compressor to tell the clutch to engage. I'm stumped-any help would be appreciated.

You can jumper the low pressure switch and if it engages then your low on charge.

I have this same problem. How do you jumper the low pressure switch? Where is it located? What are the steps? I have NO experience with with stuff.

ok-i have no power to the ac compressor-therefore allowing it not to turn on. I checked it with a test light. On one side of the relay, the test light is bright. With the ac button turned on the test light comes on when you touch the oppisite side of the relay, but it is very dim. I swithched realays with the fog lamp relay and it did the same thing and i know that this relay is good. In the fuse panel, next to the relay is a fuse type thing labeled the ac diode. It is similar looking as a fuse, but you cant see anything inside. What does it do and could this be the problem. I have completely ran out of ideas and am looking for ideas.

no i have not checked the freon-new compressor a month ago with a full charge that held its prime on the guages. cant imagine that it could have a leak, but i have seen stranger things happen. Still would think a test light would reveal power at the compressor.
