Recently I punched it around 30ish downshifted into first and it didn't shift into second untill about 56 It won't wait that long from a dig but for some reason or other on a down shift it does I never noticed that until now...

Honestly I'm thinking of going to with 2.93s in the trans I'm building because stop and go driving is just starting to get annoying. Like when I'm at a stop sign or light on a 55mph road and take off nice and easy it goes 2nd 3rd 4th in like a 6 second time frame. Sounds like a dam accordion... so it's either drive under 38mph or hammer it.

I don't know my trans could be sick... and thats the problem but it shifts quick and works well... I guess 76k miles it could be it's time...

Or...you can just leave it in 3...unless you get on the highway. That's what I do. Never shift into 4th FTW.

Yea I do that sometimes and it makes a huge difference, It's not like my car gets great gas mileage when I'm off the highway anyway lol

What were talking about is TOTALLY different than rowing gears...which doesn't do anything for you.

Rowing gears hahaha . Still fun though. Is it bad to row through gears?

Not sure...your transmission probably hates you...and its slower when you "shift it"

Especially hitting 4th or even 3rd at WOT isn't great for the trans if it is stock and not in tip top shape...you'll lose 4th first...then 3rd.

That's why we were meaning to leave the car in "3" all the time unless your going over 55mph...it is plenty easier on the transmission...and MPG's are about the same if not a little better.

Sorry for newbie interruption, but you're saying that by leaving it in 3 you can get very slightly better MPG's while being easier on the tranny?
I'd always figured that 4th gear (OD if I'm assuming right) lowered RPMs to give you better MPGs.
Hmm....well anyways now you gave me something to try out one of these days lol.

    No...

if you'd see I said when your not going over 50-55 mph leave it in 3. RPM's are the same around 50-55 in 3rd as they are crusing on the highway in 4th. I say leave it in 3 because your 4th shaft is WEAK. Unless you have an '03+ GP when GM decided to harden it from the factory. Staying out of 4th gear as much as possible in a '97-'02 car will help not kill that 4th gear...well that and not hammering on it and going stupid fast either.

Cat back is only going to be for sound, not performance. And my headers came with a downpipe. And some others dont need one.
