I was checking my oil because I have a little road trip tomorrow and when pulling out the dipstick somehow a little piece of the plastic finger grip part fell right in the oil tube. Will it cause any ill effects? I also cant put the dipstick all the way back in because of the piece lodged in there. any ideas on what to do?

mine broke too but it held together enough so it only slid down to the end of the stick.. I wouldn't worry about it to much it will probabally just get ground up... its plastic. if its still in the tube just take it off and knock it out of there or replace the whole thing with a new tube and stick

Take a 13mm socket and wrench. Head to your local JY and find one fo the billions of cars where the tube is in the same position as yours. Undo the nut. Wiggle and pull. Soon it'll release and you'll bang your hand on something sharp. (Note: Bring band aids)

Then pull yours out, and swap with the new one.

    $10 fix.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I wouldn't worry about it. Shouldn't cause any issues.

But definitely replace the dipstick like Bill mentioned.

Thanks everyone! The dipstick itself isnt broken, its just a little piece of the plastic thing that you put your finger through to pull the dipstick out. The comments really eased my mind because I thought it was something really bad! haha

Take the dipstick tube off of your car as stated above and push out the broken piece of plastic from the bottom. Then bolt it back in place. Mine broke too and I replaced the platic head with one from the junkyard. Any gm car from that era is the same, pop the pin and all you need is the plastic piece. (You should have the tube sealed with a gasket, mine required a new plastic piece to seal.)
