Thread: Crazy Taz and his wire tuck.

Well I'm about to get started on this crazy waste of time and possibly very stupid project all so I can have a prettier engine bay...

So heres where I'm going to start within the next week or so...


moving the battery.... after that the other big things I will be relocating are the fuse box, coolant bottle, "about time because I hate that stupid bottle have to take it off to do anything"

Washer fluid bottle, I might just get a smaller one and put it under the wipers or just take it out completly I only use it in the winter with de icer.

I think I'll also move the pcm to the dash or somewhere else, The brake booster and such I'm still not sure on Ive seen some honda's move all that too but thats really difficult But I might try putting that behind the dash too.

Also thinking of plumbing the vacuum lines back behind the dash and then back out right to where they connect, the thing I was wondering about those on is "this might sound like a really dum noob question but lol" does the length of the vacuum lines matter? I would think that I can't just add 5 feet onto one and make another a foot and a half shorter. Because that would change the pressure in them or lack of pressure I guess lol.

Also, is there any reason the coil packs are where they are? could I hide thos bad boys under the engine and have custom wires made? so that I get rid of most of plug wires too?

Custom coil pack brackets have been done...the 3400 and 3100 have them up on the back of the motor by the firewall FWIW, and the old Iron Duke 4 banger had the distributor on the back of the block, above the exhaust pipe. Genius. Good luck with it though...if I knew wiring I would attempt it...but I don't. I hate electronics.

I know wiring but this is still a much larger project then I'm used to thats why I'm going to do it stages so I don't mess up big and my car dosent sit for months it may take a little longer this way but Oh well its my main summer project since that hood destoryed my budget

Taz...stop over, we can do it in an afternoon.

Take a look at the last few pages of Mikes build. He shaved the engine bay, relocated ABS, wire tucked to the extreme and relocated the battery.

thats a nice build that guys got going for sure.

An afternoon lol If I used my 2 weeks of vacation time I don't think I would get it half way done in that amount of time alone

Is that awesome wire holder something you can buy? or do you have to rig that up on your own. Either way I'm gonna get one lol that looks like it makes life so much easier

But I'm thinking a build like this after my wire tuck might have to happen and for some reason I'm digging that purple but I think If I did similar to that but with a cherry red type color in place of the purple and polished valve covers with polished L26 upper that would just be a dream come true lol maybe some billet dog bones too

That clamp does help especially since it's magnetic. It's called a magnetic soldering clamp.. they're less than $15 shipped IIRC.

So I googled it for you.

i love clamps like that. soldering wires together than keep falling apart when you get them hot is frustrating as hell.

except i like to cheat and add wire connectors so it's like an o2 extension

soldering isn't a big deal to me at all my dad got some crazy expensive iron at an auction or somthing and the thing just owns I can make 20-30 connections a minute when I have someone holding the wires for me

i dont mind soldering, its just that down here it's like satans asshole
so i prefer to do work in the winter or in the a/c

man i need to cut a hole in the garage for a/c

work at night with lights that attract all those annoying bugs then lol

If you take the wires and twist them decently so they look like a solid wire under say heat shrink tubing, they hold together well. While the clamp may be nice, I've never had one to use and never had issues soldering.

Get yourself a Weller gun from Home Depot and you can solder 10 gauge in a mild wind.

a bic lighter works well if you are in a pinch like i was 4 weeks ago, i replace the brake switch on a ford explorer, they up graded the switch so you had to cut the old plug off and install a new one to work with thew new switch, nice going ford....
