ok guys I've been trying to find time to swap engines in my 97 GPGT. Well looks like I may finally have time coming up in the next few weeks. I've bought an L36 engine from a Junk yard that came out of an Olds. The replacement motor has had the intake Manifold gasket replaced as best I can tell. I bought a new oilpan and new oil pickup. What else do I need to look at replaceing before dropping the motor in.

Also can anyone tell me the best way to pull the engine out.

    Thanks In advance

Ummm...I recommend a new transmission...that vacuum powered thing you have is gonna go poof.

Other than that...get a full top end kit and a new UIM...they are cheap. And of course new fluids...I'd flush out your radiatior and everything while the motor is out as well.

New motor and transmission mounts. Take a good look at the rack for leaks. If you need to replace it now would be the time (while the motor is out).

Search for a post by me on how to pull a motor. Yeah I post a lot, but someone probably has it linked. I go to the ...use this tool level.

Uh..not quite. There should be a motor one too.

You'll want to swap flex plate and rear exhaust. maybe the alt bracket. Those would be the major differences. Besides a dog bone bracket or two.

After some more digging, I did find this advice on how to pull the motor.

Also, this one, which has a video, even.

Oh, sure. Just go and write one in a few minutes to show how it's done.

(BillBoost37 has helpfully banged together an engine-pulling walkthrough in a comment on my similar thread, here: http://www.grandprixforums.net/engin...ies-47143.html )

    Thanks again, Boost.

Was told by the guy who owns the shop that it will be another month before he will have a spot open where I can put my car to do the engine swap. I'll be checking on new tranny that is in my budget while I'm waiting for the spot to open.

Ok tranny is not an option right now. I've checked with several yards in the local area and they are way out of my Budget. I'm doing some checking on Motor mounts, Brake pads and Tires as One of the rear tires is flat and will only stay pumped up for a few hours. My daughter told me that the anti lock brake light had been on for a while before the motor locked, so now I've got to figure that out.

There's lots of great info on here about the ABS system. Search around a bit and you should be able to come up with what you need to help you diagnose that one.

    Good luck!

Probabaly a bad hub. The sensor is mounted in the hub and when they start to go you can get the ABS light. Also check all 4 connections at the wheels and make sure they are clean and tight. You should see the ABS wire coming out from behind the front tires near the lower ball joint.
