Hey guys so about a year ago my 97 gp engine had a small fire which caused the engine to blow. It had over 150k miles. Anyways I wound up replacing it with a year 2000 engine and its been running great since. Well interestingly enough, YESTERDAY i received a letter from GM stating that my vehicle has not been brought in for safety recall 09047 which is specific for 97 engines. Mind you I have owned the car for about 2 years until I just received this.
The letter states the vehicle is being recalled because"An underhood fire may be caused by drops of engine oil, from seepage or spillage, being deposited on the exhaust manifol through hard braking. If the manifold is hot enough, the oil may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond..."
So my question is, do you guys believe there is any possible way to get compensated after all this time? I am continuing research on this recall but even if it was caused by this manufactured problem, is there anything I could do? Show proof of engine swap and manifold replacements..etc? Thanks guys.
