So I have some extra time today and been planning on putting an intake on my GT for a while so figured I'd get it done. I know that I'm not going to get any crazy HP from it and that's not what I'm after. I just want a little better gas mileage and less restrictive intake. I've been doing a lot of reading up on different intakes and which are preferred over others but am a little stuck. I just want to do it right the first time so I don't have to spend more money fixing something. I have also read the dyno thread but since that's a GTPs I'm not completely sure what's best for my car. Now here is what I know....

Open cone- lots of air, warmer air, simplest to put on. Since my car is a GT and I'm not after boost I'm assuming that seeing how I'd get a lot of warmer air this isn't what I would want.

Short ram air (something like Nawarkks write up)- similar to the open cone but with a 45 degree bend which would limit air flow a little more. Again warmer air but maybe slightly cooler being a little further from the engine? This is what I'm leaning towards.

Thrasher CAI- not going to spend the money.

FWI- while this might get me the coldest air which would be good for a NA engine I don't think I want to have to do that much work for what I'd be getting. Plus puddles are ridiculous around here and I don't want to have to worry about that.

So basically I'm looking for any suggestions and information someone as to offer. If none of them would be that great then I probably will just stick with stock but I figure one of them has to be better than a stock airbox.

Honestly I just bought a short ram air for $30 on Ebay. As far as it being cooler air....If you take out the old stock filter housing, you're goin to be pulling in cooler air. So it's not goin to be that hot of air. I wouldn't spend too much money or time trying to think about it. I would just go with the short ram air. It's the best of all worlds when it comes to air intake.

My car is not stock....It's an empty canvas for a work of art.

An open cone for fuel economy is what you want, hotter air will give you better fuel economy than colder air.
2005 GTP - AL 605's gapped at .055", SD headers, WAI with 9" cone air filter, 180 degree t-stat, green coolant, otherwise stock.

    ^^That.

granted...your N/A 3800 is horribly under powered as it is...I'd make a intake and put it close to the fenderwell...as for the rest of the car...if your U-Bend/Factory Downpipe are still there...I'd replace that before I'd do an intake.

Better gains...better sound from the back (not much difference but it is there especially if you get a catless DP)...better MPG's...and better performance.

I wouldn't spend more than $50 making an intake..filter included.

Great thanks everyone those are the answers I was looking for. I will probably just do something similar to 99PGPGT. Hopefully I won't spend nearly $50 on everything either. As far as the downpipe goes that is in the plans for the summer I'm just looking for something to do before then. Wish I had the money to top swap though. Everytime I think I'm going to be able to do it something stupid happens and robs me of my money.

it's not worth having unless your IAT location is too far from the harness and you have to extend the wiring anyway.

    Alright thanks Bio.

One last question, does it matter where the IAT goes. Should it be closer to the throttle body or intake? And does it matter if it goes on the top or bottom? I noticed GM put it on top but I'm not sure if it matters. I got called into work today (go figure) so I put it off until hopefully tomorrow and just wanted to get this straightened out.

    closer to the TB.

    put it on top.

it will heat soak worse if its on the bottom.

remember your crossover is right under there.

why not save your money and spend it on gas? if you want better gas mileage, drive with a lighter foot, or get a lesabre. buicks get better mileage. gt's are geared nice n' low. if you want to get some bang for your buck, do the resonator and ubend delete.
