Hey guys, first and foremost, I did not use the search button on this yet, I'm on my BB in a coffee shop, the 98GP 3.8L is in the parking lot cus it won't start. Ran mint on the way here, now she just won't go.
Checked the fuse, its good. Relay clicks. No prime. Any other things to check? I'm gonna go out and beat on the tank with some kinda beating stick here in a few minutes. Sometimes with a good whack a bad pump will come to life again.

Ok, plan B. Well not really. Pump is dead. Since the car is just a back up car, and is kinda rotten and whatnot, instead of dripping the tank, I intend to cut a hole in the floor to access the pump and test it. My new question is, on a 2 door car, where abouts under the back seat should I be cutting? I'm not 100 percent sure where the sending unit sits in the top of the tank.

you dond have to cut a hole in the floor of the car if you pop your trunk and pull the carpet fromthe back of the seat toward the back of the car there will be an access plate under there close to the seat back

Your a GOD. Thanks for the info. Can the pump be removed from this access panel?

    yes,

just make sure you clean the area SUPER good, before you pull the pump, and make sure you let the pump drain the fuel off it before you pull it out, so you dont spill everywhere.

Thanks Fivefinger. I did use the search button once I got home lastnight and actually just finished watching those vids just before you posted up.

As for my Grandprix, here's the run down. Its now Fixed...I think. As a diesel mechanic, I checked the easy things first. Fuese and relays were good. Peeled the carpet out of the truck to expose the inspection plate. Removed this plate and exposed the top of the pump/sending unit. First noticed there was a fair bit of fine almost dust like dirt covering the area. Not having any compressed air where I was, I used a screwdriver to disturb and break up the dust, and used a straw and some lung power to clear the area a little bit. The first connector I removed was the one that is more forward facing, and immediately noticed that the ORANGE wire was not locked into the weather-pac connector. I disassembled the connector and removed the wire. After prying out the locking tabs with a small screwdriver, I reinstalled the wire into the weather-pac connector, and connected the harness to the pump. Without further procrastination, I turned the key to the run position to prime the pump, and it worked.

After putting the carpet back in the car, I refered to the Hayes manual to see what exactly this orange wire is for, but the manual is not GrandPrix specific, its a manual for a different, but similar car (I dont have it in front of me or I would say what one it is, I cant remember..lol)

Anywho, 1998 GrandPrix GT 2 door 3.8L. Anyone tell me what the Orange wire is for? 3 wires made up the connector.
