Scuse me guys.
Thinking about this a bit. If the range selector switch was fubar'd then it would not allow the car to start. A test to see if the selector is having an issue would be to try starting the car in R, D, 3, 2, or 1. The car should not start in any of those gears if the switch is good.
I haven't looked and can't where I am at the moment, but I'd want to see where the dash gets it's input on gear. It might come from the shifter. Most people with the shifter/key issue find that it's either the soleniod in the column or a part on the shifter itself. I've never heard of someone replacing the range switch to fix the issue. Not saying it's not possible, just odd that in all the reading, fixing and experience that I've never heard that one.
