Grand Prix GT 2000, ~139K miles.

Hello all. I've had an oil leak for a while (long story short been trying to track down a transmission issue first in order to decide how to proceed. See ......http://www.grandprixforums.net/any-n...tml#post433826 )

On a few hot summer days in the past, I have noticed burnt oil smell and some smoke, but it seems to be a constant thing now for about 2 weeks. When I'm idling at a light, I can see the smoke but it smells more sweet than like burnt oil. My low coolant light does come on but it disappears after I drive for 5 mins. What can I do to determine if the smoke is due to the oil OR if its a problem with a leak from the LIM/UIM(original ones)?

    Thanks in advance.

Open your hood and look? sounds like a valve cover leaking.

probably the crappy OE LIM gaskets. They created white "smoke" (actually steam) coming out from under the hood. If you can't see anything, it may be from the rear ones. When I pulled mine out at 80,xxx miles, both were bad. Now there are good

    white smoke is coolant.

I've had whit smoke come from my hood. I thought of the oil leaking.. I replaced front valve cover. No more smoke coming out. Try that out.
