Ok heres my problem my 99 gp gt had the plenum replaced about 2-3 weeks ago, along with a new water pump, gaskets etc. It threw up a map sensor code so i replaced it and cleared the pcm. After i shut the car off the code came back. The mechanic told me to replace the pcv valve underneath the map sensor ( it was clogged when he removed it but he said he cleaned it and though it was ok). Since the can ran fine like a dumbass i didnt imediately replace it. Yesterday during acceleration it bogged down a bit but cleared right up after a few seconds and never did it again the entire day. Today on my way to work i noticed it knocks all the time when the motor is at reg temp (though quietly) and when i rev it it gets loud quick. My question is could it be the pcv affecting my map sensor or could i have spun a bearing? The mechanic is trustworthy he worked at my gm dealership for more than 20 years so i know it isnt failure on his end.

onfirmed by mechanic rod bearing gone. Guess ill try to fing a used motor in a yard somewhere. Anything i can upgrade while i have it out that wont make my tranny blow itself up? Figured headers, some polish work on the heads ( used to polish old gm 350 heads a bit ), maybe a mild cam. Will any of that require me to reflash the pcm?

your spun bearing was caused by coolant in the engine correct?

the reason i ask is that my GP was driven 22 miles right after a LIM gasket replacement and an oil change. we thought the leak was fixed, but it wasn't so i was just wondering if anyone thought that 22 miles could do any damage. from what i understand, it took a while for it to leak in there. and we've cranked it once with coolant in it and ran it about 5 minutes (not driving, just idling)

sorry if im jacking the thread i just thot with the relevant topic somebody might be able to provide some insight

Car lasted bout a month with the new plenum and didnt leak any coolant. I did need an oil change pretty bad, but it never ran out , low or hot. Most times coolant will leak into a cylinder and cause it to lock up when you try to start it. Happened twice to my parents but there wasnt any motor damage to their cars.

Think about a hydrolock guys. The motor has no oil between the bearings and crank, then you try to force it over with the starter ....most do this repeatedly.

What's that to do the bearings?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

right. when we went to drive it home right after we bought it from a friend, it hydrolocked then. and after the LIM gasket was done (thought the leak was fixed) i tried to crank it a couple hours after the 22 mile drive home and it hydrolocked on me. and i've got pics on here with the block full of coolant.
im thinkin it should be fine when we do the LIM and UIM with metal gaskets. the first go round the LIM was cleaned with some type of rotating brush so we're assuming it messed up the seal. hopefully this time it fixes it..
