So my low oil light came on Friday afternoon (07 Base GP), turns out the car was 1.25 quarts low.

Had the oil changed in Dec and I am using Valvoline Syn Power 5W 30. The DIC/Oil Life Monitor hasn't sounded the alert for an oil change, the oil isn't really dirty, and I had only gone 5200 miles(mostly in town).

Is it normal for these cars to burn off 1.25 quarts in that amount of time/miles??

    Thanks

Really, you shouldn't burn any oil. You can either shrug it off and remember to keep refilling your oil or track down the gremlins and get your car running perfect. Regardless, it's time for an oil change.

The oil has been changed now.

The throttle body is a little dirty which I still need to hit with some cleaner.

What else should I look for?

look for oil leaking down the block..common places are out of the valve covers, LIM, heads, or oil pan

Sounds like normal consumption to me, I lose about a quart after 6000 miles, though I drive that in 3 months not 8. My most recent popular mechanics states that even 1 quart after 1000 miles is considered normal consumption in some engines.

^^I realize a stock L36 is not as fast as the sticker implies, but this sticker has worked and it is still a hell of a lot of fun to drive considering it's a grocery sedan.

There is no visible oil on the engine...the bottom is dry, the valve covers, LIM etc are clean.

The intake manifold is really dirty, fine coating of what appears to be oil...could the PCV system suck that much oil into the intake?

try something: start the car and pull off the oil cap on the front valve cover. put your hand over it, does it suck a bunch of air in? your PCV valve might be bad.

My GP triggers the low oil light, I put in about a quart, and about 200-300 miles later, change oil light comes on. I'm using synthetic, so I can go a few more miles, but I've just come to accept that a car with 130k miles burns oil. No visible leaks anywhere; I've parked it on the street and I never got any puddles. I just know to keep the oil from that last quart bottle in the trunk of my car and pour it in when the low oil light comes on.

My oil light is on too. Changing it today. Has less than 5000 kms on oil. It didn't come on with the last type of oil I used castrol I think.
